Below is a list of frequently asked questions relating to the sleeping arrangements of participants. If you have a question which is not in the list below, email the Unearth Perth Organising Committee unearthperth(at)scoutswa.com.au
As a group, we want to bring in tents and cooking equipment by vehicle. How do we go about this? Thats fine, and we encourage you to do this, but due to the limited space on The Esplanade you will not be able to park your vehicle or trailer on the reserve. You will be able to drop your gear off on the Friday night and then take your trailer back to your scout hall. Have a think about joining in with another group in your district and sharing the cooking and cooking equipment. This will save on the amount of gear you need to bring. Closer to the event we will put up some details on the website containing the more finer details of this.
Can Joeys and Cubs leave the site to sleep at home each night? For all participants to have the full experience of the weekend it is preferable that Joeys and Cubs sleep over at The Esplanade on the Saturday and Sunday nights. Activities planned for the All Sections Overnight Camp (ASOC) have been aimed at all sections. Special permission has been granted by the Chief Commissioner for Joey and Cubs to sleep at the Esplanade in dorm style accommodation. However, should the need arise, Joeys and Cubs can leave the ASOC each night provided this had been arranged with the Administration Director by the 18th of May. It is essential that any Joeys or Cubs who leave the site are back in the morning to continue competing. All participants will need to compete for the whole weekend.
I have heard that male and females will be sleeping at different ends of The Esplanade, is this true? No. However males and females do need to sleep in differnent tents.
Do males and females have to sleep in separate tents? Yes. According to National and Branch policy separate sleeping accommodation, tents or suitably partitioned dormitories are required for boys, girls, male and female Adult Leaders. The Unearth Perth event is no exception to this rule so please make sure your team, group or organisation is suitably equip. This includes Leaders who are married.
Will all sections be sleeping in the same area? In a nut shell, Yes. About half of The Esplanade Reserve will be used for camping. It takes a lot of space to camp 2500 people. The area will be divided up in to camping area, with a few no camping areas just for vehicles to travel through. We would like you to camp in your groups, or teams, or however you like. The Organising Committee will set up some dorm style accommodation for the Joeys and Cubs but everyone else should be in tents. We are in the process of developing a map of how the reserve will be set up, we'll put it on the website for you to look at and that will give you a better idea.
Will The Esplanade be secure while it is being camped on? Yes. The whole Esplanade reserve will be fenced off from the public and there will be continuous security presence provided by a commercial company for the duration of the weekend. The police will also be notified of the event. If you have any further concerns regarding security at the event, please do not hesitate to contact the event director Greg Chapman unearthperthdirector(at)scoutswa.com.au
